XP Pro Versus XP Home

I've seen a few really nice machines in great condition and at great prices on Ebay that have XP Pro installed but I'm hesitant to buy one because I'm not sure if the os will work with my screen reader (mostly NVDA these days, though sometimes JFW) and software like StepVoice Recorder, Debut Video Capture Software, Free CD to MP3 Converter, Clean-up, Wordweb, and various games. If not, then how easy would it be to simply install XP Home? I guess I'd need to go to the manufacturer's website and see if their drivers work with both versions, but if Pro is just as accessible, then I don't need to do that at all.

if your jaws has a pro lisence you shouldn't have a problem, and NVDA has no issues from what i've seen so far runnint it here in vm.

But what about the other software? Many times, things will simply say Windows XP and won't mention Home or Pro.

It should work fine. I think pro means it has more features. It would be confusing if there were software versions for xp home and pro. Can you imagine 4 versions of software written for 4 versions of Windows Vista or 7? That would be a nightmare.

Hi, I use Xp professional at work. It has Xcel, and a few other programs on it that I don't really use. I like it fine. But am thinking of upgrading to windows 7. If you're using JFW, you would need the license for XP pro like another poster has said.

XP pro allow it to connect to corporate networks and other stuff like that that home can't do since its not intended for use in the work place they will both connect to home networks just fine. Oh and Xcel is a part of MS Office not XP pro. Software and drivers that work on XP will work for either version and the same for Windows Vista and Windows 7
